ABOUT

The Morris Art Prize is founded by Queensland based businessman Terry Morris. Terry and his family are passionate supporters of the arts and the establishment of this art purse is a token of their enthusiasm to foster, promote and support talented Australians.

Entries to The Morris Art Prize opened in September 2017, welcoming artists from all over Australia and artists of all career stages to enter. A fantastic total prize purse of $17,000 on offer with $10,000 awarded to the winning entry.

On Friday 2nd March, the judge Damian Hackett, will announce the winners at an Official Opening function held under the stars. Damian is prominently known for his experience in public and commercial galleries and the fine art auction market.

The top prize goes to the best entry inspired by the theme 'Brisbane to Byron'. The relevance of the theme will factor in the judging criteria, ensuring it is a Gold Coast-centric celebration of the beauty, nature, culture, people and character of the region stretching from Brisbane in the north to Byron in the South and the hinterland in the east.

Artworks must be painted in one or more mediums by oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache or mixed media.

THE EXHIBITION

Rather than asking the public to visit a gallery, The Morris Art Prize brings the art to the people by hosting the exhibition at the Carrara Markets Events Arena. Regular market visitors have the added attraction of visiting an art show for free and the opportunity to buy fantastic original art.

ART FOR SALE

All art pieces, including the winning art, will be available for sale during the exhibition period. Cash or card facilities are available. All purchased art must remain on display until the completion of the exhibition and will be ready to take home from Tuesday 13th March.
