REVS
Conducting a motor vehicle REVS check
When selling a motor vehicle, auctioneers and motor dealers must
provide a REVS Certificate (Security Interest Certificate) to
the customer at the time of sale. This provides information
about whether the vehicle has clear title, and offers some protection
against repossession. Private sellers are not required to provide
this service, however, buyers may use the service at any time.
Obtaining REVS Certificates
Businesses can obtain REVS Certificates directly through
the Office of Fair Trading with a monthly account, or through a
REVS broker.
You can contact us by:
- Phoning: 13 13 04 (Monday to Friday 8.00am - 6.00pm, Saturday 8.30am - 4.45pm); or
- Visiting Floor 21 State Law Building, 50 Ann St, Brisbane (public counter hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm, Tuesday 9.30am - 4.30pm).
For a one-off REVS Certificate purchase, you can use a credit card, cheque or money order. Written requests can be faxed to (07) 3008 8224 or posted to GPO Box 3111, Brisbane, 4001. You will need the registration number, engine and VIN/chassis numbers on the vehicle, and registration papers to do the search.
