The Special Interest Vehicle Concession
Queensland Transport understands that some street rods and vintage cars are rarely used. There is a concessional registration scheme for special categories of vehicles including motor vehicles, motorbikes and trailers that have limited use on the road.
The following types of vehicles are eligible for the scheme:
- vehicles that are 30 years or more old
- historic ambulances and fire-fighting equipment
- street rods (hot rods)—vehicles that have been modified for safe road use and have a body and frame built before 1949
- replicas fitted with a modification plate, code LH9.
- Vehicles fitted with a modification plate, code LH10 are not entitled to a special interest vehicle concession for registration.
Failure to comply with the conditions of the special interest vehicle scheme is an offence and serious consequences may result.
Download the special interest vehicle guide (PDF**, 480KB) to view the conditions and requirements of the special interest vehicle scheme.
